Your Fourth Appointment
Support Guide
You now have a powerful set of tools for managing your mind and body. This guide will help you use them well.
A significant milestone
By your fourth session you have built your conditioned response to calm. You have successfully practised your Transformation Process and achieved a consistent sense of relaxation in your body.
This is your success. Your recovery is not luck - you have acted, practised and made something work for you. You are now taking responsibility for your own mental health and wellbeing. Well done.
A Key Shift
Using the SCS in Real Life
From this session onwards, you are now able to use the SCS in real life situations - not just during your daily practice. You can use it wherever you are, whenever you feel your stress or anxiety beginning to rise.
All tools have their applications and their limits. The SCS works most powerfully in combination with your traffic light awareness system - together they give you highly effective regulation of your responses in everyday life.
Please continue to practise your thirty-minute Transformation Process each day. This is what keeps your stress hormones low, particularly long-term adrenaline, which can quietly undermine your emotional wellbeing and your ability to follow through on your plans.
When you feel yourself moving from your safe colour toward your beware colour, bring in your SCS - wherever you are, whatever you are doing. That is what it is there for.
Your Personal System
Your Colour Awareness System
During your session we established your personal colour system. These are the colours we assigned together to represent different states of mind and body. Use them as your internal early warning system.
You are calm, grounded and in control. This is where you want to be.
You are beginning to shift. Bring in your SCS now, before things escalate.
You are in a heightened state. Use your SCS and return to your practice as soon as possible.
Your Mindset Tool
The "I Am" Statement
Whatever follows the words "I am" shapes how your unconscious mind sees you - and your body responds accordingly. "I am" is a message from your inner mind about how it is really feeling about you right now.
After each time you use the SCS, install a positive, constructive and believable "I am" statement. It does not need to be dramatic - it simply needs to be true enough for your mind to accept it.
"I am ..................................................."
Choose something positive, constructive and believable to youWhatever you allow into your mind consistently will become your experience. Choose your "I am" with care - and repeat it each time you use the SCS.
Mindset
Stay in the Present
To be happy, we need to remain in the present. Most unnecessary suffering comes from spending time in one of two places that are beyond our reach:
Resentment
Recalling events we are upset about. We cannot change what has already happened - yet we continue to cause ourselves pain over it.
Where life happens
The only place where you have any real influence. This is where calm, happiness and change are possible.
Worry
Thinking about what might or might not happen. Upsetting ourselves over something that has not yet occurred - and may never occur.
If at any time you find yourself drifting away from the present, bring in your SCS and redirect your mind. You have some ability to influence the present - use that energy there.
Install thinking that is present and pleasant. Ask yourself: what feel-good thought can I employ right now that is accurate and will help me feel better? In NLP terms this is called reframing. In CBT terms it is a rational thought. Whatever the discipline - if your current thinking is upsetting you, find a more helpful way to look at it.
You cannot stop the waves, but you can learn to surf. In life, things happen that you cannot control. What you do have control over is how you respond - and how much you allow those happenings to affect you and your life.
A Practical Tool
The Feel Better Thought
When you notice a thought that is upsetting you, try this: rather than arguing about whether it is right or wrong, ask yourself - what other way of looking at this would help me feel better, whilst still being honest?
Often we hold onto thoughts simply because they feel correct to us. But it is not always helpful to frame life as right or wrong. Inevitably, it is just life - a perception of what has happened. If that perception is causing you pain, you have the choice to find a different one.
Life will feel considerably better - and it will always be your choice to make it so.
As someone once said about the weather: there is no such thing as bad weather - only appropriate and inappropriate clothing. Open the window, see what is actually there, and dress accordingly.
A Final Thought
Motivation = Motive + Action
Do not allow your thoughts and fears to control you. Worry exhausts your energy without creating change. Instead, use that energy where it counts: plan your path, consider your resources, and spend your energy taking action.
What you may have experienced as stress can now be reframed as motivation. Motivation = motive + action. You have the motive. Now you have the tools to take the action. That is the formula for success.
Please continue to practise your Transformation Process - it will maintain your sense of inner calm and a balanced perspective. Now that you are doing something about these issues, you will gain more control over how your mind and body respond, and develop more constructive habits.
Thank you for working with us. Please remember - if you have any concerns at any point, reach out to us rather than waiting for your next appointment. We are here for you.
